Showcasing the best in Indian bridal fashion
(D.Nair – The Hindu, 06/08/12) - In a first of sorts, Singapore will witness Indian fashion in its true glory this weekend. The Hindu, in collaboration with designers and fashion houses, presents GRT-The Hindu Bridal Mantra 2012, a three-day mega fashion extravaganza that promises to showcase the latest trends in bridal wear.
“Last year’s show was in Chennai and the reception was great and the designers told us they’d like to do it for an international audience. Singapore was but a natural choice,” said Arun Anant, CEO of Kasturi and Sons Ltd., publishers of The Hindu group of newspapers, at the prelude to the two-day expo that saw the participants showcase their best.
The second edition of GRT-The Hindu Bridal Mantra kick-started at the swank Saint James Power station in Singapore, where the rainy evening witnessed the best in bridal fashion. In the limelight were collections by designers Shantanu and Nikhil, Nikasha, Phalguni and Shane Peacock and Raghavendra Rathore, all of whom are renowned the world over for their excellence in fashion.
In true Bollywood styles, designers Shantanu and Nikhil began the evening with their collection that was bold and reflected the attitude of the woman of today. Bright colours effortlessly mixed with gold and silver embellishments to bring unconventional bridal wear. In contrast came Nikasha’s collection in light pastels and celebrated tradition with intricate craftsmanship and contemporary silhouettes.
Mumbai-based designers Phalguni and Shane Peacock, who have a whole host of international celebrities as their clients, let their stylistic frills do the talking. With nets, velvets and chiffons, they showcased saris, cholis and lehengas that had their unique style and this was followed by Delhi-based Raghavendra Rathore who showed the audience a mix of eclectic yet classic clothes that are handcrafted to perfection.
Adding to the dazzle collection were clothes by Chennai-based silk house Pothys and Singapore-based Nalli Pte. Ltd. While Nalli Pte. Ltd. displayed vivid colours and crystal embellishments, Pothys showcased a selection of its famed Samudrika, Parampara, Vastrakala and designer silk saris. Also on display was jewellery by GRT that ranged from antiques to uncut stones and diamonds that are trousseau-perfect.
The next two days will see an extravaganza that will offer designer clothes, jewellery and accessories to not just brides but anyone who believes in real Indian fashion.
In addition to this, Discover India tourism will be at the expo, showcasing the top 10 honeymoon destinations across India.
The event is supported by title sponsor GRT jewellers, associate sponsors Manyavaar, Pothys and VGN, media partners Zee TV, Radio Masti and event partner iAds and Events. Discover India will showcase honeymoon destinations.
